Mazda CX-3 details come to light

Mazda may be working on a new CUV, according to Auto Express. Reportedly called the CX-3, the small crossover will be engineered to take on the likes of the Ford EcoSport and Nissan Juke, but with a focus on fuel efficiency and engaging driving characteristics.

The report names no sources, but says the CX-3 will benefit from a new small-displacement diesel engine. The 1.6-liter oil burner will be joined by a 1.3-liter gasoline engine when the vehicle debuts in 2014. Auto Express reports the model may bow as a front-wheel drive offering only, with no all-wheel-drive option.

And what will it look like? Word has it Mazda will continue to leverage the face we've seen on the current CX-5 (pictured). That means the company's shield grille will make the jump, but with more plastic lower body cladding. Inside, Auto Express says the CX-3 will offer buyers fold-flat rear seating for extra cargo capacity.

Weekly Car Care Tip: Brush out the air vents

These louvers are a real magnet for dust, and a vacuum with a brush attachment just won’t get it all. Take an inexpensive paint brush and give it a light shot of Endust or Pledge furniture polish. Work the brush into the crevices to collect the dust. Wipe the brush off with a rag and move on to the next one.

2013 Mazda MX-5 Miata Named a10Best Car By Car and Driver Magazine

2013_miata

The 2013 Mazda MX-5 Miata has been named to Car and Driver's 10Best Cars list for the eighth straight year and 14th overall since the vehicle made its global debut in 1989.  With a nearly 50:50 weight distribution, the small-in-size MX-5 offers a hefty dose of road-hugging handling and superior driving dynamics, making the roadster a favorite among weekend warriors and daily drivers alike.

"The MX-5 Miata sets the bar high on sports car performance and driving pleasure, which is not lost among its increasing fan base as the vehicle continues to be a world record holder as both the most popular two-seat roadster ever built[1] and the most raced nameplate in motorsports," said Jim O'Sullivan, president and CEO, Mazda North American Operations (MNAO).  "Sleek, stylish and sporty – the MX-5 remains an uncomplicated sports car with such a visceral driving experience you won't want to take your hands off the steering wheel."

According to Car and Driver, "What keeps the [MX-5] triumphant is not raw performance but a balanced chassis that communicates every nuance to the driver through perfectly calibrated controls."  The MX-5 first landed a spot on the 10Best list in 1990 – its first model year – and has made regular appearances ever since.

Powered by an MZR 2.0-liter engine, which produces up to 167 horsepower, delivers 140 lb-ft of torque and redlines at 7,200 rpm, the 2013 MX-5 is available with a soft top or industry-leading 12-second-operation Power Retractable Hard Top, and is on sale now.

Weekly Car Care Tip: Remember to clean nooks and crannies

Detailing means just that—finding and dealing with all the trim lines and recesses that a quick once-over cleaning job misses. Wrap a cloth around an old, worn screwdriver (without sharp edges) and spray Simple Green or other all-purpose cleaner on the cloth. Move it gently along the trim lines to pick up the gunk. Keep refreshing the surface of the cloth. Go around all the buttons and controls as well. Follow up with a rejuvenator like Armor All.
